Rumor Forum Downtime
Please expect downtime of the Rumor Forum through the rest of the day. We’ll accelerate our year-by-year work to get it done tonight…
Update, 11 pm CDT 14 Jun 2007: The pruning tool in SMF is not up to the task of what I’m needing to do, and the server load is too high for me to do the updates on the server. [For an example, several boards were wiped out during my attempt to prune them. Unacceptable.] I’m going to have to do this locally, and that’s going to take a lot more work. I have pulled the Rumor Forum fully offline—not even Mark and I can get into it at this point. It will stay this way for the next few days while I figure out what to do. We’re simply at a crisis point with the database, and I want to do this once and do it right and be done with it. Please have patience. –GFM

Doubt I can be any help, but if I can be, don’t hesitate to ask.
(– and just reset the whole thing!

Apparently it doesn’t like my CTRL-ALT-DELETE tags.
June 15th, 2007 at 6:25 am
Take all the time you need…. as long as it doesn’t impact thedirtroad.net!! Hee hee hee.
June 15th, 2007 at 7:40 am
thanks, geof.
June 15th, 2007 at 7:54 am
Thanks, Geof. I take it from this post that you’re sticking with SMF for now.

All across the country, there are people who can’t breathe because the rumor forum is not online. It is quite the tragedy.
Good luck with the fix, Geof. Folks surely appreciate your hard work. Just realize there’s a certain segment of the board community that will die (no, really, physically die) if you don’t get things up and running soon. And do you want that blood on your hands? No, sir.
June 15th, 2007 at 8:43 am
thanks for all the hard work geof. hopefully this weekend will give you some time to work on it like you want. don’t worry about keeping it off for an extended period. one fix once and for all would be awesome.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:16 am
Someone’s gotta do it:
THIS IS SO UNFAIR! COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN! WHINE! WHINE! WHINE!
(seriously, though - take all the time you need. My job will thank you. Heh.)
June 15th, 2007 at 9:17 am
If it’s gonna be somebody, it might as well be the pregnant lady, whom I would not righteously smack.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:45 am
The plain “Maintenance Mode” page is kinda dull. We should have something a bit more exciting, like these.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:45 am
Mike: I have way bigger fish to be frying than to have a pretty error page.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:59 am
thanks for the hard work! only now i don’t know what to do with myself when the chillins’ be nappin’…
June 15th, 2007 at 10:13 am
My officemates are quite perturbed that the witticisms I reserve the for Board are being unleashed instead on them.
Do your thing Geof. Whatever makes it easier on you in the future.
June 15th, 2007 at 10:15 am
Geof, I have whipped up a little error page for you, if you want:

HA!
In any regard, the Maintenance Mode message is encapsulated in one line of a PHP settings file, so … no real way to manipulate it without re-writing things. I think “Set up a system to file fingernail clippings by size and weight” is higher on my list of priorities.
I’m trying to figure out how to do this without leasing a second server.
June 15th, 2007 at 10:43 am
Ohhhh I like Daniel’s error page!
June 15th, 2007 at 10:49 am
The System is Down, yo
June 15th, 2007 at 11:23 am
Thanks for the hard work, Geof!
June 15th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Geof, I pretty much hate SMF, just so you know. So you don’t have to hate it. I hate it for you.
June 15th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Thanks for all the hard work, Geof! My boss will be quite appreciative of my more productive time at work.
June 15th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Additional generic compliment, Geof!
June 15th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this beast, Geof!

June 15th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
rock & roll.
June 15th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
I say we just turn this comments page into the board. If nothing else it would make Geof get in his car and drive to Powder Springs to kick my butt.

Board: Random
Subject: Summer means Ice Cream!!!
William had his first Brewsters ice cream cone tonight. He was more excited by the cone than the ice cream. The cone he consumed, bottom to top. The ice cream, he wore on his clothes.
Josh had his regular: Elmo Icecream - that’d be strawberry with sprinkles and 2 eyes.
Lisa had the Peach tonight. Apparently it’s all peachy.
I had Peanut Butter Puddles. I think I might be getting this the rest of summer.
What kind of ice cream are you hankering for this summer?
June 15th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
I just wanted to post something so I could feel cool.
June 15th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
If you need help with the database stuff, give me a call or shoot me an email here at work (where I will be until at least 6:00pm tomorrow evening). Le sigh.
June 15th, 2007 at 6:32 pm

June 15th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
what about rmfo idol voting?
geof you rock.
any icream is fine by me.
chris, you’re already cool.
i’d like dan’s error page more if it didn’t have a cat on it.
speaking of cats, kat while the chillins’ be nappin’ you could be drinking something that’s a bit chillin. perhaps a daiquiri of your choice.
+ 6 posts for me
June 15th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
thanks for working on this Geof. We know you’re working hard.
June 15th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
I heard this was just a sleek marketing ploy to get all of us to go to the Beboard.
June 15th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Oh no! The Rumor Mill down during the planned release of Overdressed pre-orders! Where will I get my daily dose of connected fanboy gloating?
Seriously, I’ll have to find something else to do…
June 15th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Speaking of ice cream, I sent one of my lackeys from work to Dairy Queen tonight. I enjoyed a butterfinger and cheesecake blizzard. It was…Delightful.
June 15th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
speaking of which, “they” took share the blame off of myspace.
the whole world is falling apart.
June 15th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Thanks for all your hard work, Geof!!
June 15th, 2007 at 8:57 pm

June 15th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to bed. G’night, everyone!
June 15th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
but what about the icecream kat? THE ICECREAM!
June 15th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Ice cream is very important. I had cookie dough ice cream with chocolate syrup tonight. It was fabulous.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
For what it’s worth, if everyone’s really bored, you can catch :30 samples of Overdressed on Independentbands.com … should be right off their front page (if you’re into that sort of thing)…
And, not to sound cliche, but thanks Geof for all the hard work you’re putting in to keep this going!
June 15th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Take as long as you need. Don’t rush. We’ll survive. And when it is done, we shall throw you a virtual “Thank You” party, where drinks of various types and potency will flow freely.
June 16th, 2007 at 7:38 am
I’ll buy Geof some real life icecream. Got a flavor?
June 16th, 2007 at 9:54 am
^ STILL looking on rocksmyfaceoff.info for the Memes Board.
June 16th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I’ve been seriously considering a trip to ColdStone this weekend - cakebatter icecream with cookie dough mix-in. Should I go for it (and start tracking WeightWatchers again on Monday)?
June 16th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Go for it.
